  • Come learn more about the National Science Foundation’s Graduate Research Fellowship, which provides three years of financial support for students pursuing PhD study in NSF-supported STEM disciplines, including a $37,000 annual stipend, a $16,000 cost-of-education allowance, international research and professional development opportunities. The Office of Scholars and Fellowships will hold an information session on Tuesday, April 14th from 4:00-4:30 PM on zoom (register here!), covering the application components, process, and campus resources available for students who plan to apply this cycle. This information session will be recorded; please email fellowships@richmond.edu for a copy of the recording. Application deadlines vary but will be in Fall 2026.
  • The Maryland Native Plant Society is funding research grants of up to $4,000 for empirical, hypothesis-driven research relevant to Maryland's native plants. Projects that concern plants or habitats outside Maryland will be considered if the results of the project will add to the body of knowledge about plants and habitats in Maryland, or an appreciable portion of the plant specimens or research sites come from or are located in Maryland. The project may also concern the effects of invasive non-native plants on Maryland native plants and habitats.   • The Wilderness Society has opened the annual application cycle for the Gloria Barron Wilderness Society Scholarship. Please see announcement below and pass on to your relevant networks. $25k Scholarship opportunity for graduate students interested in wilderness conservation. The Wilderness Society, a leading conservation organization headquartered in Washington, D.C. and with offices around the country [wilderness.org], offers an annual scholarship, available to qualified graduate students. We award $25,000 each to two currently-enrolled graduate students to support their research and preparation of a paper on an aspect of wilderness. T. A. Barron created the Gloria Barron Wilderness Society Scholarship in honor of his mother, Gloria Barron, a dedicated educator and tireless advocate for wilderness protection. The research paper should address an aspect of the establishment, protection, or management of wilderness, protected areas, and/or conservation on public lands. Applicants for the Gloria Barron Wilderness Society Scholarship must: be currently enrolled in an accredited graduate institution in the United States at the time of application; have strong academic qualifications; and have academic and/or career goals focused on making a significant positive difference in the long-term protection of wilderness or public lands in the United States.
