Hazing Prevention
@ Richmond

Hazing has no place in our web.

Training Requirements

The University of Richmond, in line with both Virginia state and national law, requires students to be trained "per status" of their membership involvement in the selective organization.

What does this mean?
There are three statuses: potential new member, new member, and active member.

All new and incoming Spiders will satisfy the potential new member requirement during New Spider Orientation. Beyond this training, members are responsible to attend on their own accord when appropriate.

New Member Expectations

It is the University's expectation that all new members attend a Hazing Prevention - Adam's Law: Lonely Dog facilitation the semester they join their selective organization.

These trainings are specifically designed for new members in their first semester of membership and are facilitated by professional staff that serve on the Hazing Prevention Coalition. These are a collection of staff members from across the division of Student Development and Inclusion & Belonging.

Attendance & Tracking

When a selective RSO extends an offer to a student to join their organization, those new members are also required to attend a hazing prevention and alcohol misuse education seminar. If a new member does not complete the mandatory training, the new member will not be permitted to join the organization.

Attendance for these trainings will be tracked internally by Fraternity & Sorority Life Staff. If you have questions on where your new member class stands, please reach out to Marissa Miller.
