The Arab Student Association is a space for both Arab students and non-Arab students interested in Arab culture and the Arabic language to meet and experience Arab culture through weekly meetings and large Arab Student Association-sponsored events each semester. Our weekly meetings typically consist of updates about the club, Arab news, and casual discussion while our larger biannual events consist of celebrating Arab culture through hosting a large Arab dinner party with Arab food and music for all who attend. We are also planning to host more medium-sized events this upcoming year such as monthly Arab movies nights where the club gets together to watch and discuss Arab films. Additionally, depending on the COVID-19 situation, we hope to host small excursions to the Arab bakery and other places in Richmond to explore the Arab influence locally. All students interested in the Arab world, regardless of ethnicity or area of studies, are welcome. Reach out to me by email if you have any questions. Welcome to UR BARK Club! Our goal as an organization is to volunteer at local Richmond animal shelters. We are currently working with three different shelters, including the Richmond SPCA, Richmond Animal Care and Control, and the Hanover Humane Society. Two of the shelters, Richmond Animal Care and Control and the Richmond SPCA, also have a running program where you can go on runs with the dogs!

Most students volunteer every other week, but depending on which shelter you volunteer at you can go as often as you'd like! Volunteers without cars are matched with other Richmond students who have cars depending on their availability so that everyone has a mode of transportation to the shelter. We also host fundraising events to raise money and awareness for shelter animals in need. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out. We look forward to having you join the club!

The University of Richmond has a vibrant, diverse Catholic campus ministry program that serves nearly 1,000 Catholic students, staff, faculty, and nearby residents who often attend Mass with the campus community.

Mass is celebrated every Sunday at 5 p.m. in Cannon Chapel during the academic year. CCM students join in the ecumenical Kairos Evening Prayer on Tuesday nights. Scripture and a Slice Bible study on Wednesdays offers a deeper dive into the Sunday lectionary, and various other devotional activities are offered depending on student interests, along with community service and fun fellowship events. Our community is known for being cheerfully Catholic and enthusiastically ecumenical.

Our choir is entirely made up of students and directed by a student music director. Students serve as lectors, hospitality ministers, and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion.

CCM is a ministry of the University Chaplaincy, not a student organization. We are connected to the wider church through nearby St. Bridget parish, which typically sends priests to celebrate Mass with us. Students can get baptized, confirmed, and married through CCM in Cannon Chapel.

Choeur du Roi (Chords), founded in 1995, is the University of Richmond's oldest all-gender a cappella group. "Choeur du Roi" means "Choir of the King" in French and is pronounced like corduroy pants, which we all wear at our major performances. Most importantly, our collective passion for music and group chemistry bring us together and make Chords feel like a family. Kairos is a weekly Christian worship service that is held from 8-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday nights in the choir loft of the Chapel. The services are 30 minutes, and they are contemplative in nature, offering quiet music, a brief homily and an opportunity for reflection. Every week, the service centers on a theme and question that are relevant to college life and help us consider how our faith informs our connection to the world around us.

Kairos services are led by Chaplaincy staff members and student leaders who volunteer their time and talents to serve on the Kairos Leadership Team (KLT). The KLT takes an active role in worship leadership by helping with outreach and publicity, preparing the Chapel for the services, serving as lectors, singing, playing music, offering prayers, and planning events for the Kairos community to get to know one another.

Kairos is a ministry of the Chaplaincy, not a student organization. Kairos community engagement activities are similar to the events coordinated by student organizations. We are grateful to be included among the religious and spiritual communities in Presence so that we may share about weekly services and events.

There are no requirements for membership in the Kairos community. We welcome all to attend the Kairos services and join us for the community engagement events. We hope to see you soon!

In URMUN we try to create an environment that satisfies both the people who do MUN for fun and those who do it competitively. We hope to give you an opportunity to gain and hone your ability to debate and mauver amoung political discussions and discourse. With a variety of individuals and interest in the club, we will have fictional, political, and historical committees throughout the year.

We have a travel team, so if you have any interest in travel and are experienced, we highly encourage that you reach out to our president and inquire more about it.

If you are inexperienced on Model UN and wish to try it out, we can help you! Many of our club members entered the club with little to no experience, but we have been able to train up individuals so that they can enjoy their Model UN experience.

Ngoma African Dance Company has maintained a strong presence on the University of Richmond campus for 29 years. Led by our artistic director, Babadunjo Olugunke, for the past 28 years, we have performed many performances from Celebration of Dance to MLK Day, Oliver Hill Scholars dinner, and our annual Spring Concert. We perform a variety of dances, originating from different areas of West Africa. We, the men of the provisional chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha at the University of Richmond, pledge to be good hosts for ourselves, our community, and our brotherhood.





Since our founding close to a year ago, our mission has been to be good hosts. By no means do we mean host in the restricted sense, either. A good host is constantly in the service of others in the broadest capacity, unfettered by any physical structures. It should be, we take it, our highest point of pride if one can truly say we have been good hosts. We say this in the past tense since, pointing toward the future, one can always be better; this isn’t a milestone we can ever reach, but certainly one we can achieve. We aren’t, of course, the first group of people to hold such a view. The Greeks called it xenia, the virtue found in the offering of hospitality. Xenia was such an esteemed virtue that every myth where someone acted on the vice of inhospitality involves a responsive invocation of Zeus’s wrath. Zeus decimated an entire village because some occupants wouldn’t let an old man into their homes during a storm. We try to keep the mindset that our village, also known as our brotherhood, might well be destroyed in the same fashion if we, too, become inhospitable. Thus, from xenia, we derive the ways in which we better ourselves, our fraternity, and our community. We also recognize the relationship between hosting and leadership, with both involving the use of power to serve others. Accordingly, we view it as only proper that we strive to be a fraternity filled with leaders to pursue the virtue of xenia. We continue to recruit men who we believe to be fully capable of said pursuit. In doing so, we only serve to further our capacity to be good hosts of the community and build an inclusive brotherhood.

Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society was founded in 1920 to encourage and recognize superior achievement in the study of government and politics at the undergraduate and graduate level. Pi Sigma Alpha is the only honor society for college and university students of government and political science in the United States. The University of Richmond’s Beta Xi chapter was founded in 1953.

To be selected, a student must have completed the following academic requirements:
(1) Six units in political science at UR;
(2) Three units of which must be at the 300 or 400 level;
(3) Overall GPA of 3.3; and
(4) Overall GPA of 3.5 in the major.

We are the Generation Action X Planned Parenthood organization on campus, and we work together to fight for reproductive justice and fundamental justice for all. This means that we help educate people a variety of things like on safe sex, mental health, women empowerment, women's healthcare services, and the fight for reproductive rights. Planned Parenthood is split between women's health and healthcare services and advocacy for pro-reproductive rights candidates, and we participate in activities relating to both. With everything going on the world with COVID-19 and important social issues, we believe in the importance of health in all aspects, and plan to work with other organizations of social justice on campus and in our local Richmond community.

UR Relay for Life is committed to raising awareness and money for the American Cancer Society. We host fundraisers throughout both semesters and a large event in the spring (the Relay) with cancer survivors, speakers, and participants. At the event, teams of students and faculty members come together to play games, eat at food trucks, listen to cancer survivors, and walk around the track for hours in hopes to honor those who have lost their lives to cancer and raise money to find a cure for those currently suffering.

Scholars Latino Initiative (SLI) supports Latino/a/x high school students with college access through rigorous academic challenge, leadership development, scholarships, and supportive mentorships. The organization pairs current UR students with Latinx high school students from the Richmond City area. This mentorship goes beyond supplemental academic help because UR students are prepping these students for college and beyond. Led by Dr. Kaufman in the Jepson Leadership School, SLI has helped Latinx students keep their passion for learning and continue their education at a four year university or junior college. SLI is open to any UR student that is motivated to shape the new generation of Latinx leaders in the Richmond area. Mentors do not have to be Latinx, and Spanish is not required.

How does our program benefit the university?

We build a community of students who care about a diverse set of social issues in fields such as healthcare, education, politics, economics, and the environment and provide them with an experience that allows them to work alongside the communities who are impacted by these issues. The students are ambassadors of the University of Richmond and bring their experiences in various communities around the United States back to our campus community in the form of conversations and actions. Our mission is to reveal the complexity of the issues plaguing communities in the regions we visit. We are then able to return to campus with a more holistic understanding that we can share with our friends and classmates in an effort to foster dialogues and movements around the issues we explore.

In addition, each year since 2011, we have produced a professional journal publication as a way to compile all of our participants’ final reflections from their trip experiences. We share this journal with our participants, their families, our community partners, donors, and our campus community at large.
