The Arab Student Association is a space for both Arab students and non-Arab students interested in Arab culture and the Arabic language to meet and experience Arab culture through weekly meetings and large Arab Student Association-sponsored events each semester. Our weekly meetings typically consist of updates about the club, Arab news, and casual discussion while our larger biannual events consist of celebrating Arab culture through hosting a large Arab dinner party with Arab food and music for all who attend. We are also planning to host more medium-sized events this upcoming year such as monthly Arab movies nights where the club gets together to watch and discuss Arab films. Additionally, depending on the COVID-19 situation, we hope to host small excursions to the Arab bakery and other places in Richmond to explore the Arab influence locally. All students interested in the Arab world, regardless of ethnicity or area of studies, are welcome. Reach out to me by email if you have any questions. Ballet Club intends on adding to the campus dance community by providing an outlet for students interested in practicing classical ballet. The club is open to students of all dance experience levels; the club seeks to give students with previous ballet experience the opportunity to continue dancing and to teach technique to any beginners who want to learn ballet. This organization contributes a unique culture to campus because there are currently no other dance groups that focus specifically on classical ballet and the non-exclusive membership fosters community amongst artists of all backgrounds.

Welcome to the BARK Club page! The goal of BARK Club is to help students get connected to local Richmond animal shelters to volunteer. We currently work with Richmond SPCA and Richmond Animal Care and Control. Students volunteer at least 2 hours a month at the shelters predominantly with dog walking but some volunteers also take dogs on outings, runs, help with clean-up and admin work, or assist with cat care! Both shelters are around 20 minutes away so for students without cars, we help organize transportation with another volunteer.

We also host fundraising events to raise money and awareness for the shelters. Our main event is an outdoor event in the spring with both pets and adoptable dogs. Please message us with any questions! We look foward to having you join the club!

Choeur du Roi (Chords), founded in 1995, is the University of Richmond's oldest all-gender a cappella group. "Choeur du Roi" means "Choir of the King" in French and is pronounced like corduroy pants, which we all wear at our major performances. We've performed at multiple events for crowds of hundreds across the east coast and recorded several CDs. Most importantly, our collective passion for music and group chemistry bring us together and make Chords feel like a family. We are the Generation Action X Planned Parenthood organization on campus, and we work together to fight for reproductive justice and fundamental justice for all. This means that we help educate people on a variety of topics, including safe sex, mental health, women's empowerment, women's healthcare services, and the fight for reproductive rights. Planned Parenthood is divided between women's health and healthcare services, as well as advocacy for pro-reproductive rights candidates, and we participate in activities related to both. UR Relay for Life is committed to raising awareness and money for the American Cancer Society. We host fundraisers throughout both semesters and a large event in the spring (the Relay) with cancer survivors, speakers, and participants. Welcome to Sankofa African Student Alliance! We strive to spread awareness and break down common myths of Africa and all African culture. Come and join us for our weekly meetings and gatherings and be part of our diverse community, united as one. We host a variety of events throughout the year, such as a Meet and Greet Dinner, Movie nights, Cultural Night collaborations and our annual Spring African Fashion Show. Our goal is to create an inclusive community, not only of the African diaspora but of the surrounding community and all those interested in learning more about the culture.

Scholars Latino Initiative (SLI) supports Latino/a/x high school students with college access through rigorous academic challenge, leadership development, scholarships, and supportive mentorships. The organization pairs current UR students with Latinx high school students from the Richmond City area. This mentorship goes beyond supplemental academic help because UR students are prepping these students for college and beyond. Led by Dr. Kaufman in the Jepson Leadership School, SLI has helped Latinx students keep their passion for learning and continue their education at a four year university or junior college. SLI is open to any UR student that is motivated to shape the new generation of Latinx leaders in the Richmond area. Mentors do not have to be Latinx, and Spanish is not required.

The SEEDS Project is a diverse, student-run organization that examines the complexities of American society through service, dialogue, and reflection in order to cultivate lives of active citizenship.

How does our program benefit the university?

We build a community of students who care about a diverse set of social issues in fields such as healthcare, education, politics, economics, and the environment and provide them with an experience that allows them to work alongside the communities who are impacted by these issues. The students are ambassadors of the University of Richmond and bring their experiences in various communities around the United States back to our campus community in the form of conversations and actions. Our mission is to reveal the complexity of the issues plaguing communities in the regions we visit. We are then able to return to campus with a more holistic understanding that we can share with our friends and classmates in an effort to foster dialogues and movements around the issues we explore.

In addition, each year since 2011, we have produced a professional journal publication as a way to compile all of our participants’ final reflections from their trip experiences. We share this journal with our participants, their families, our community partners, donors, and our campus community at large.

UR Smash is a club focused on the Nintendo video game Super Smash Bros, currently Super Smash Bros Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch. We are open to both casual and competitive players and aim to be a welcoming community on campus where students can come to relax and unwind from the stress of college. We meet once a week on Friday nights to play Smash. We welcome all skill levels, and hope to be a place where everyone can come to study, do homework, socialize, relax, and, of course, play Super Smash Bros!

SOLS, or the Solidarity Organization for Latinx Students, seeks to unify Latinx UR students and elevate their voices with the goal of celebrating Latinx culture and creating an awareness of Latinx issues amongst the greater campus community. We strive to create a safe space that mirrors the diversity that exists within our ethnicity while welcoming allies/accomplices. At a predominantly white institution, it can become easy to forget one's roots and identities and it can even become difficult to take pride in them. We are here to remind UR that we are present. The Messenger showcases student work in Poetry, Fiction, Nonfiction, Visual Arts, and Translation. Each fall semester, students are invited to submit their work for publication in the spring. The Messenger Staff conducts a blind review of every submission, putting together a free, student-designed book for the campus community. After publication, the Messenger Staff hosts a release party and an award ceremony for two cash prize winners in Poetry and Prose.

The University Players is a student theatre group on campus that complements the academic program of the Department of Theatre and Dance (DTD) and enriches student life with opportunities to participate in and view the arts. The University of Richmond Video Game Orchestra, serving the University of Richmond, is committed to providing an avenue for students, faculty, staff, and the greater UR and Richmond community, to share their interest and passion for music, from video games in particular. The organization accomplishes its mission by creating ensembles of musicians (instrumental and vocal) consisting of students, faculty, and staff, that will prepare and perform a repertoire of diverse music literature from many published video games.
